SEW LIKE A GIRL

KIMBERLY BECKER [1990, Textiles]

Based in Bath, ME

As a feminist artist, Kimberly’s art brings awareness to issues surrounding women’s autonomy, Her “Dolls for Change” are a collection of handmade, one-of-a-kind dolls made of recycled clothing which she sells and then donates 50% of the proceeds to www.drotyuganda.org, a non-profit which uses the money to build girl’s bathrooms in rural schoolyards in Uganda. This small action saves hundreds of girls from leaving school when they begin menstruating at 12 or 13 years old. Kimberly believes we must educate girls around the globe in order to have a brighter future. All dolls are signed and numbered.
