EMKNITS — Knitwear by Emily Mills Reed

EMILY REED [2003, MFA TEXTILES]

Based in Chapel Hill, NC

Emily Mills Reed is a textile artist, whose works are predominantly machine knit merino wool that is “felted” or “fulled” using hot water (the same way you might accidentally shrink a sweater in the washing machine). She earned an undergraduate degree in Studio Art and Art History from Oberlin College, before earning her MFA in Textiles from RISD.

Emily’s felted evening gowns have been shown at the RISD museum in Providence, RI, the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland, and at the Triple Candie Gallery, NYC. She appeared as a guest artist on Martha Stewart Living in February 2004. Her hats, scarves, and evening gowns can be found at boutiques around the country.
