WANDERLUST CERAMICS

CRAIG CRAWFORD [1982, Textiles]

Based in Newport, RI

Craig Crawford produces handmade functional and sculptural ceramics under the name of Wanderlust Ceramics. Her practice integrates odd and humorous imagery from etchings and engravings of the 16th and 17th centuries. The process involves rolling a clay slab which is screened with various images and patterns, cutting a shape and then draping the clay over a handmade slump mold. Every piece is hand finished, fired once, then painted, glazed and fired again. Museums of Natural History are a source of enduring inspiration.
